The Waterline Residence is a hidden sanctuary that beautifully integrates itself with the surrounding environment. The linear form of the home, use of sight lines, and material selection reaffirm the importance of the site’s natural features. The project is located in Huntsville, TX, on an expansive lot that includes dense pockets of trees and native landscaping. As you move farther back into the property, a small lake emerges and easily becomes the focal point of the property. The form of the home stretches horizontally, so every room has a view of the lake and natural landscape. Additionally, the project reflects the surrounding nature through its materiality.
Upon arrival, the linear mass of the home peaks through the many trees and integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The use of stone and wood ground the home in its environment and provides an inviting warmth to the space. In addition to the main home, the project includes three additional structures. A Barn space for day-to-day operations, a Motel for guests, and a Lounge for social gatherings or time to unwind. The additional structures are located closer to the front of the property and take advantage of the heavily forested areas of the property. All structures relate to one another through proximity and materiality. This project truly embraces the land and creates a warm, welcoming environment that integrates perfectly with nature.
